Corn / Maize / Jondhari:

The present days sweetcorn or corn is also known as Jondhari in Chhattisgarh,this word is getting extinct slowly. In Chhattisgarh,Maize is always grown in the fields or on the muddy divider of 2 fields. This is mostly harvested in rainy season.Maize is considered as heavy grains, which is very nutritious. Mize seeds are used in making bread out of its flour, popcorn or Coarsely grinded seeds are used as daliya .

Maize is known as "Queen of all cereals". In Chhattisgarh production of Maize has increased gradually. Due to increase in commercial consumptions farmers are growing it as cash crop. Earlier, it used to be harvested in rainy season with paddy crop but now farmers are growing it across the year .

It was grown by tribes since very olden times and still most of the production comes from the tribal belt example- Bastar,Kanker,Kondagaon,Dantewada region as well as some part of Sarguja district like Koria ,Balarampur,Surajpur.


After Paddy ,Maize is the most important crop in Chhattisgarh .The commercial demand gives a bright chance to increase the production. The production units have been set up for processing of Maize starch , Glucose, Maize oil, Gluten, Maize fodder/Husk, Conflakes. From very long time the farmers are  exporting Maize from Chhattisgarh to many other countries out side India.     



भुट्टा/मक्का/जोंधरी 


भुट्टा/मक्का/जोंधरी :

वर्तमान के sweetcorn या मक्के को छत्तीसगढ़ी में जोंधरी भी कहा जाता है ,जो कि एक लुप्त होता हुआ शब्द है। छत्तीसगढ़ में  खेतों की मेड़ों या बाड़ियों में  हमेशा से ही लगाया जाता है।इसे ज्यादातर बारिश में लगाया जाता है ।इसे भारी अनाज के रूप में देखा जाता है ,जो बहुत पौष्टिक होता है । भुट्टे के आटे की रोटी, घिस कर दलिये की तरह या लाई की तरह फोड़ कर प्रयोग होता है।
