Traditional alternative foods during scarcity in rural Chhattisgarh: khoila

 In villages people are purely dependent on rice crop , which comes  during oct –nov.By that time last stock gets finish. There are different arrangements by the villagers .

Alternate crops like kutki,sanwa,kanda, those grows themselves around open field or pond.

They dried Some of the roots and fruits like berry,mango ,zimikandcan .In vegetables beans, bitter gourd, eggplants, drumsticks, tomatoes fill the gap. These dried vegetables are known as khoila. Pumpkin are mixed with lentils and dried in the sun are known as badis.

One of the best food in scare situation is bamboo seeds ,which is more energetic than other grains ,but taking it out from  bamboo bunch itself is a tedious exercise .

These are alternative arrangements in rural areas ,which is sustainable for time being.
