Water chestnut is spiky triangle shaped fruit which is grown underwater. Most of the time it is grown in pond or 1-2 feet in logged water area. It takes six months to grow up and take out the fruits. It is a winter fruit. In Chhattisgarh Balodabazar, Dhamtari, Sarguja, Bijapur,Kondagaon are the areas, which are doing good in water chestnut cultivation.
Benefits of water Chestnut
Water chestnut is good for summers. It has tendency of cooling down body temperature.
It is very good antioxidant
It considered as super food and also it is gluten free in nature.
It is rich and minerals like calcium iron zinc phosphorus therefore it is very good specially for women.
Water chestnut is rich in fibre due to that it is good for weight loss.
Good for lowering down the high blood pressure.
Usage of Water chestnut (singhada)
Singhada is used is different forms. Raw Singhada/water chestnut can be eaten after removing its outer hard cover. The inside white hard part are usually sweet in taste.
Water chestnut can be eaten in boil form also.
Mostly dried water chestnut is used in the form of flour to make chapati or halwa (Indian sweet dish ) or as stuffing.

सिंघाड़ा तिकोने आकार का जलीय फल है । छत्तीसगढ़ में सिंघाड़े की खेती कई क्षेत्रों में की जाती है, जैसे कि धमतरी ,बीजापुर, बलोदा बाजार, सरगुजा,कोंडागांव क्षेत्रों के कई जगह सिंघाड़े की फसल ली जाती है। सिंघाड़ा पानी के अंदर होने वाला बहुत ही पौष्टिक फल है। सिंघाड़े को कच्चा,उबाल कर ,पीस कर आटे के रूप में ,जूस के रूप में प्रयोग किया जाता है।
